IRCAM [http://www.ircam.fr/?L=1] Sigla di Institut de Recherche et de Coordination Acoustique/Musique, istituzione creata negli anni 1970 a Parigi, nell’ambito del Centre Pompidou, con lo scopo di aprire uno spazio per la ricerca scientifica e la produzione musicale, in stretta relazione tra loro, su mezzi informatici ed elettronici. Tra le prime realizzazioni fu il sistema 4A, sotto la direzione del fisico italiano G. Di Giugno. Fin dal 1974 l’Istituto è stato diretto dal suo fondatore P. Boulez, cui sono successi L. Bayle nel 1992, B. Stiegler nel 2002 e F. Madlener nel 2006. Alle attività originarie di ricerca scientifica e musicale, sostegno ai giovani compositori, attività editoriale, si sono aggiunte, tra le altre, una mediateca (1996) e un dipartimento per la creazione coreografica (1999).
